The most iconic piece of a Turkish henna night is the bindallı – a velvet, embroidered evening dress worn by brides for centuries. Appeared during the late Ottoman period and made traditionally from velvet (red, burgundy, navy). Decorated with rich gold embroidery (the word bindallı means “a thousand branches” due to the patterns). Symbolized luxury, femininity, and the family’s pride in the bride. Some brides prefer a modern evening dress for part of the night and switch to bindallı for the emotional henna ritual itself.

Today’s kına gecesi is a blend of old rituals, emotional farewell moments, energetic dances, and Instagram-ready aesthetics.

The ceremony usually includes; applying henna to the bride’s hand, the bride pretending not to open her hand until coins or gifts are placed, symbolic red veil (duvak) covering the bride, emotional songs and group dancing, laughter mixed with joyful tears.
